Well, we went there two weeks ago and the place is having "rennovations", however there is no air conditioning, the buffet was greasy, the bartender was rude and very condescending. Drug us rampant by the pool and on the upstairs patio. Seems to us like these people got kicked out of somewhere else and meandered over to Deenie's Hideaway to start chasing their customers away! Gosh, we are a hard working couple and travel to Florida about once a month. We are white collar, well-educated, drug and disease free and it seems like the scum of the Earth get's kicked out of one place and moves on to the next--YES YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE! Well, La Quinta on Commercial is always clean and it is next to TRAPEZE! A place who monitors their high quality of clientel and is DRUG FREE! Good luck Deenie's! You won't see us again!

Today is June 11, 2008. It has been almost a month since I returned to my current home after a two week trip to Boca Raton. As I lived in the area for 10 years, I was a frequent visitor to DEENIE'S HIDEAWAY. I even spent many vacations there after moving to New Orleans. One year was 4th in the Ms Deenies contest. My point being, I go way back and have made many friends there. My first day there on this trip was a shock. First I learned that at least of 30 of the oldtimers refused to darken the door of DENNIES. It did not take me long to find out why!
DEENIE'S HIDEAWAY has always had two things going for it, even though it is a dive and no matter how much money is being currently wasted, will always be a dive with greasy food. People have been willing to go all these years because of it's above ground pool, it opens at 9 a.m. and closes late, and open around the clock on the weekend and used to have affordable /decent rates.
I have had many good times at DEENIES throughout my years except for this last visit. I have deliberately waited to write, so I don't write with anger, even though it is well deserved. This trip I found many unpleasant changes, For example: Great staff, Tammy and Deenie had been fired. A black bar tender at DEENIE'S married one of the white owners upon the death of his wife. Her name is Marja and she is blowing money right and left, and making costly mistakes.(mainly because of her brother Gilbert. She is very sweet lady, but her brother Gilbert is taking advantage of her, spending money frivously, stabbing her in the back while she is under the impression that he is doing great as she said to me, Gilbert is behind me 150%.
The only thing Gilbert is behind is running people off! He has a very nasty temper as displayed to myself and others while I was there those past two weeks. He screamed at me about how I parked my car, yelled at those who complained about no air conditioning, and participated in the illegal drug activity going on in the parking lot on Saturday night. From the sound of the cat fights while sitting by the pool, it sounded dangerous back in the back with no lights and people argueing over a joint. There use to be a sweet security guard on the weekends. Guess they fired him too!
Now, I honestly thought I wouldn't write this and post it because I do like Marja, and she means well. But I learned today from a phone call that Gilbert went TOO FAR by telling ball face lies about an incident that happened to me on my last day there. As I was sitting at the bar, preparing to leave, this Gilbert comes up and says to me "Do you have anything in your bag I should be aware of"? I said NO. He said could he look, which I said fine and opened it for him. He stated that he heard I took some food. I said yes, I have 4 bags of 25 cent chips to munch on later. He hurdled insults which left me shaking. Said pick two out of the four to take, how dare you insult my sister when she only charges you to come in for $5.00. Well the rate for single females during the week is $5.00. He then made references that I only came to lay out and didn't screw anyone. Excuse me, except for the weekend, I was the ONLY SINGLE FEMALE there! The men that came had one foot in the grave! I am a picky LADY! Plus it is none of his business why I come. Certainly is not the food. First you can't see it due to NO LIGHTS above it, then when you get it, for the most part is totally unediable. And the NEW staff watch the most discusting trailer trash (Springer and Maury) while puffing away on their cigarettes and doing very little. I couldn't even go into the bar to cool off as those shows make me want to gag! One of the NEW staff is Calvin, a bleached out surfer dude with who is never at the bar to serve your drink! I regret giving him tips now!
So, in my opionion, if you want to pay double the previous rates to get in, be treated like I was, searched for no reason and eat greasy food and put up with all the construction going on during business hours, and screw on mattresses that have seen many better days as the springs poke right through to your bare skin, then by all means Go to Deenie's! I will not be back!
Gilbert, I hope this review was worth the two bag of chips and the insults and attempted humilation on your part! You DON'T MESS WITH HOPE!

I went on a Monday and Tuesday night. Parking lot was empty and the air-conditioning was not turned on.
